The Franklin/Hampton/Mason House
Destroyed in that 1912 fire was a local inn on Exeter Road near the railroad tracks, then known as the Mason House, but formerly known as the Franklin House and Hampton House. Read its history here.

This project was put together by Hampton Eagle Scout Peter Argue with the help of other scouts and local historians. On January 22, 1883, 80 pair of oxen and 10 pair of large team horses were hitched to cables and the Hampton Academy building was dragged on sleds from its original location near where the Tuck Museum now stands to the current location of the Junior High School, all in just 17 minutes.

1869 Letter about John Greenleaf Whittier
In 1869 a young woman named Leila Seward, who was vacationing with her father at Hampton Beach, took a visit to the poet John Greenleaf Whittier at his home in Amesbury, Mass.
