Summer Reading Program at Lane Memorial Library
“Lions and Tigers and Books, Oh My!”
by Cynthia Stosse
Wal-Mart has again, generously donated a bicycle for the top prize. There will also be puppets, books, tee shirts and other great prizes. The children will be given an entry ticket for each 30 minutes that they read. The drawings will be held on August 1st when we welcome Rocky home from his travels.
Each Wednesday morning at 9:30 AM there will be an open story time for non-readers beginning July 3rd through July 31st. For readers through fourth grade, Thursday mornings at 9:30 AM will be your time to meet together, share books and make a craft. For grades 5 and up, July 11th will be a pottery class with the supplies donated!
Thursday evenings will again be the family night. Julie and Brownie will kick off the summer traveling with their special bus on June 27th. We will dive into the ocean with Marine Biologist Ellen Goethel on July 11th. She will show us where Rocky lives as well as so many other exciting ocean creatures. On July 18th, we will dive from the sky with Mike Hawley, parachutist. Get ready for “Where the Wild Things Are” and an evening of making puppets from recyclable trash on July 25th. Rocky’s return is scheduled for August 1st with a welcome home party and the drawings for the terrific prizes. All evening programs begin at 6:30 PM.
Our summer finale will be a visit from the author of “Dory Story” and many great alphabet books, Jerry Pallotta. He will be here on Thursday, August 8th at 10:00 AM. This will be a great time to hear about his work and hear him share his books. Books and autographs will be available. This is a very special time planned at the library.
Sign ups will begin on Monday, June 17th. A contract for time spent reading, a reading log and other information will be available at that time. Please call the Children’s Room at Lane Memorial Library at 926-4729 with any questions.
