Special to the Atlantic News:
HAMPTON -- The Lane Memorial Library's Children's Room has been one busy place lately - story times, school visits, book fair, reading groups, writing groups, homework help and teen time - but what is on the schedule for November?
Every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. there will be an open story time for ages 2 and up from November 2 through December 21 (there will be no story time on November 23 because of Thanksgiving). Old and new favorite books will be shared.
The week of November 14 is Children's Book Week. "Imagine" is the theme, so imagine something going on every day of that week for children. Voting for the Lady Bug Book Award will take place that week. A sharing of the books will take place on Monday, November 14 and Wednesday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m.
Puppeteer Martha Dana will be presenting one of her award-winning shows on Tuesday evening, November 15 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be a children's book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library - all books will be 25 cents. This will certainly keep the small patrons busy.
Dates to keep in mind for the month of December include Wednesdays through December 21, with open story times at 10:30 a.m. December 15 is the date for the library's annual "Polar Express Party" at 6:30 p.m. (please call or come in to the Children's Room beginning December 1 for registration). On Saturday, December 17 at 10 a.m. there will be a Gingerbread House Decorating Party for ages four and up. The children will each have a small house to decorate with goodies after sharing some special stories. Space is very limited so register ahead of time beginning December 5.
The Lane Memorial Library is located on Academy Avenue in Hampton. For additional information about any of these activities and events, or to register, call the Children's Room at (603) 926-4729 - or, better yet, come in for a visit and see the smiles! A listing of all of activities can be found in the monthly newsletter that can be picked up in the Children's Room or viewed on the library's Web site.
