Hampton Garden Club Member & Friend

Atlantic News, Thursday, September 9, 2004

IN MEMORY OF A DEAR FRIEND - The Lane Memorial Library is currently featuring a Ruth G. Stimson Memorial Exhibit in the library lobby. Karen Ryan, a dear friend of Stimson, put the display together in honor of the late Hampton resident. The exhibit includes one of Ruth's paintings, a hand carved and painted totem pole, some hand-made dolls, a hand-carved bird, a memorial album with her articles and photos, a Christmas history book that Ruth produced, and other personal items. Stimson, who died on Wednesday, July 14, 2004, was a well-known Rockingham County educator, community leader, and environmentalist, and was member of several organizations including the Hampton Garden Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a skilled craftsman, and was instrumental in founding the Rockingham Craftsmen organization, of which she was an active member.
