April 2003 Children's Room News
Display CaseThe display case outside of the Children’s Room has shown the collections of children, young and old. We will be accepting new names and collection information to be chosen, randomly, every two weeks. Anyone who has previously put a ticket into the box for the drawing is asked to resubmit your name and collection idea. New names and ideas will be added. Be creative when deciding on what collection to lend the library.
There are times throughout the year when a special display will be shown. Sometimes it is art from local students, sometimes is represents the theme of a special event. Whatever it is, it is always exciting for the person who displays the collection and even more exciting for the ones that are enjoying it.
Forms will be available at the desk in the Children’s Room for sign-ups. Some ideas for display are: cars and trucks; horses; dolls; stuffed toys; books; artwork; dinosaurs; rocks and minerals; things from other countries. The ideas are limitless.
Birthday Book ClubThis school year has been very exciting. Parents and grandparents have generously given to the Birthday Book Program. Any child can have a book donated for his/her birthday, chosen especially for that child and added to the collection at the library with a special bookplate. If the child is a student at Centre or Marston Schools, the PTA will add that same book to the collection in the school library. The child will be the first to check out the book from the library and a special Birthday Party is held each year on Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Wish lists are available at the Lane Memorial Library or special selections can be made. Let the celebration of each child last for years to come.
Muggles School Coming in JuneIf you are seven (7) or older, watch for the coming of Magic for Muggles. “Throckmorton” will be at the library on June 13th, Friday, of course. Thirty children will be admitted to Hogwarts and will learn magic, just in time for the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. That release date is June 21, 2003. More details will be available at the end of April.
Food For FinesThe Lane Memorial Library will be accepting food donations for the Hampton Food Pantry for the month of April. Any fines can be “paid” with non-perishable foods, especially microwavable foods. Food will, of course, be accepted even if no fines are owed! Thank you in anticipation of your generosity.
