July 11, 1957

Excavating work for the new
wing of the Lane Memorial Library got
underway this week with the Pierce
Construction company of Stratham,
successful bidders at $28,245. It is hoped
the project can be completed by early Fall.

[Photo above] Keys to the newly completed wing of the Lane Memorial Library were turned over to town officials at the dedication ceremonies held Sunday January 5, 1958 at the library. Included in the dedication group were, [left to right], James B. Pierce, Stratham, contractor; Wheaton J. Lane, benefactor; James Tucker, Jr., chairman of the building committee, who turned the keys over to Donald Ring, representing the Board of Selectmen; Dr. Harold Pierson, chairman library trustees, and Horace G. Bradt of Exeter, architect.

The children's reading room in the redecorated main building
provides a well lighted pleasant area for study.

Looking along the peg board partition of the new
wing is one of the paintings by Hampton artist
Arthur Johnson, which included oils, water
colors and pastels on display.

A view of the new wing from the old building shows this well-lighted
pleasant section and its facilities.
