Town's 350th Celebration Going Strong

The 350th anniversary celebration of the town of Hampton has been marked by a variety of special events in 1988, including a reenactment of a colonial militia encampment in uptown Hampton, art exhibits and school plays.

But, though the year is half over, there are still plenty of exciting chances left to commemorate the anniversary of the town. The town's 350th Anniversary Committee has provided the following schedule of the events remaining in the 1988 celebration:


Sat. 9 & Sun. 10 — Old Home Days — Reunion Days; Registration of families; Roll call of towns and families; Family reunions; Rye Stone to be placed; Field Post Office will cancel mail with commemorative hand-stamp; Videotaping of first families.

Sun. 17 — 10 am. — Daughter Town's Sunday, First Congregational Church.

Sun. 24 — 2 p.m. — Blessing of the Fleet and parade of decorated boats from State Pier to Plaice Cove and return.


Sat. 6 — 10 a.m. - 12 noon, Bike and baby carriage parade for 2-to 8- year-olds, East End Park, Locke and Winnacunnet roads.

Sat. 13 & Sun. 14 — "Zanylympics" and corporate games, Tuck Field.

Sun. 14 — 10 am. — Descendants First Families Sunday, First Congregational Church.

Sat. 27 — 10 a.m. — Senior Citizen's Food Fair, High Street Victory Gardens.


Sat. 3 — 4 p.m., Clambake, Tuck Field (3 seatings); evening fireworks display, Winnacunnet High School southeast field.

Sun. 11 — 1:30 p.m. — 350th Anniversary Parade, Ocean Boulevard from High Street to State Park.

Sat. 17 — 8:30 p.m. — 350th Anniversary Ball, Hampton Beach Casino.

Sun. 25 -- 7 p.m. — Organ Recital featuring music of past 350 years, United Methodist Church, Lafayette Road.


Sat. 1 -- Marsh bus tour.

Sun. 16 - — Founder's Day, historical contest; 10 am. — Founder's Day service and open house with Militia Guard at First Congregational Church

Mon. 31 -- Seacoast Striders "volksmarch."

Sun. 11 — 7:30 p.m., Ecumenical anniversary year closing service, Winnacunnet High School
