HAMPTON FALLS -- Philip M. Toppan, 88, of Toppan Lane, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, in Exeter.
He was born May 23, 1917, in Hampton, a son of the late Christopher S. and Jessie (Merrill) Toppan.
Mr. Toppan was a graduate of Hampton Academy and High School with the Class of 1935. He worked as an automobile salesman for the former Clark Ford Dealership in Hampton, retiring in 1982. Before this he also worked in sales for Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Newburyport, Mass., and before that at the former Dow's Grocery Store in Hampton.
Mr. Toppan resided in Hampton Falls since 1964, coming from Hampton. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Barbara (Savage) Toppan, he is survived by two sons, Peter C. Toppan of Denton, Texas, and Michael P. Toppan of Hampton Falls; his daughter, Wanda B. Binkley of Cupertino, Calif.; five grandchildren, Kevin and Robert Binkley, and Christopher, Jennifer and Tucker Toppan; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, C. Grafton Toppan, and his sisters, Wilma White and Elizabeth White.
WE REMEMBER: Mr. Toppan was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hampton, Star in the East Lodge 59 F. & A.M. of Exeter, Rockingham Lodge 22 I.O.O.F. of Hampton and Oceanside Grange 260 of Hampton. In his earlier years he served on the Hampton School Board. Since his retirement, he enjoyed spending his winters at his home in Nokomis, Fla. He enjoyed camping, boating and aviation.
SERVICES: Calling hours are 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Private graveside services will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
