OCALA, Fla. - Earl Taylor Newman, 77, retired barber and long-time resident of Hampton, N.H., died in his home on April 27, 2004, after a long illness.
Earl was born May 18, 1926, in Seabrook, N.H. He was the son of Ralph and May (Eaton) Newman.
Earl was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.After his discharge, he went to barber school in Boston. Upon his return to the Seacoast, he settled in Hampton to raise a family and to apply his trade. He was a well-known barber in Hampton, who owned and operated Earl's Barber Shop, a familiar landmark in Hampton center.
Earl was an avid golfer, playing at the Exeter Country Club, and was a member of the Portsmouth Country Club before retiring to Florida. In Florida, he was a ranger at the Pine Oaks Country Club.
He was a member of the Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose and Kiwanis.
He enjoyed hunting and ice fishing with his brother and brothers-in-law.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Newman; sons, Kent Newman and his wife Joan of Cape Coral, Fla., and Mark Newman and his wife Donna of Hampton; two daughters, Gail Newman of Ocala, and Carol Ruef and her husband Steve of Ocala; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters, Roberta Defracesco, Christina Locke, Emma Eaton and her husband Leo, all of Seabrook, and Sandy Merrill and her husband Richard of Hampton Falls; one brother, Martin Newman and his wife Carolyn of Seabrook; and a brother-in-law, James Eaton of Seabrook.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha (Adams) Newman; and a sister, Marjorie Eaton.
NEWMAN - Earl Taylor Newman, 77, retired barber and long-time resident of Hampton, N.H., died in his Florida home on April 27, 2004. The burial will be at 2:30 p.m. May 7, 2004, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. A memorial service, open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. June 1, 2004, at the Masonic Temple in Hampton, N.H. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County, P.O.
