Hilda G. Morse

HAMPTON -- Hilda G. Morse, 91, of 24 Norton Road died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1995, at Seacoast Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born July 18, 1903, in Hampton, the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Godfrey) Paulsen, and was a lifelong resident of Hampton.
She was a graduate of Hampton Academy and Keene Teacher's College.
Mrs. Morse was an elementary school teacher for many years, teaching in Auburn, Candia, Stratham, North Hampton and Hampton. She was also a substitute teacher for many years in School Administrative Unit 21. After retirement she continued to work as a tutor.
She was very active in the Hampton community and was a member and former secretary of the Senior Citizens Club; a member and former lecturer of the Ocean Side Grange; and a member of the Mother's Circle, the Hampton Monday Club and its arts committee, the Hampton Historical Society, where she served on the executive board, and the Hampton Garden Club. She was a life member and former secretary of Hampton Academy and Winnacunnet High School Alumni Association; and a member and former president of the PTA.
She was an avid writer and former correspondent for the Portsmouth Herald, the Newburyport News, the Hampton Union and the Exeter News-Letter, for which she was a correspondent for 46 years.
The widow of Edgar C. Morse, who died in 1969, she is survived by two daughters, Arlene Dow of Franklin and Marilyn Smiley of Altamont, N.Y.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gertrude Palmer of Hampton, Elsie Thayer of West Virginia, and Marjorie Hilton of North Branford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held last Saturday in High Street Cemetery, Hampton. Memorial donations maybe made to the Hampton United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 465, Hampton, NH 03843.
