Lucy Ellen Dow was born October 4, 1840 and died January 21, 1896. She was the daughter of Joseph Dow, who wrote History of Hampton, N.H.. Joseph died a few years before the books completion so his daughter Lucy edited the final work and got it published. She herself died a few years later. In 1888 she authored an historical sketch of Hampton titled "Beautiful Place of Pines".
